Introduction to FlyOS-Fast System

FLYOS-FAST is a lightweight Linux system optimized for 3D printing scenarios, providing a unified printing control, web management, local screen, camera, and system update environment for FLY series host boards and integrated motherboards.

Image Verification Notes

The system structure and common functions described in this document have been verified against the official v1.3.10 images for the H3, H5, and H618 platforms. Supported devices, screen interfaces, and onboard MCU maintenance methods differ across platforms. Please select the corresponding image based on your actual hardware.

System Design

  • Read-only system slots: The official image includes two SquashFS system slots with identical content. OTA updates can switch between A/B slots, reducing the risk of system boot failure due to interrupted updates.
  • Independent configuration partition: The FlyOS-Conf partition on the TF card stores config.txt, allowing network, device model, screen, and printing mode to be pre-configured without entering the Linux system.
  • Persistent user data: The system saves /etc, /data, /root, and the data directories for the current printing mode through a separate data partition, while the core system remains read-only.
  • Streamlined runtime environment: root is the only interactive management account; the system does not provide traditional package managers such as apt or dpkg, and commonly used runtime environments and maintenance tools are pre-installed with the image.
  • On-demand service startup: Services such as Klipper, RRF, KlipperScreen, FLY Screen, Crowsnest, and Moon2UART start based on options in config.txt. Disabled features will not run alongside the system.

Key Features

Feature CategorySystem CapabilityUsage Notes
Printing SystemKlipper or RRFSelected via printer; the two modes do not run simultaneously
Web InterfaceFluidd or MainsailSelected via klipper_webui in Klipper mode
Local DisplayHDMI, supported FLY-TFT, KlipperScreen, FLY ScreenAvailable interfaces and screen models depend on the device platform; display orientation can be adjusted through configuration
Serial ScreenMoon2UARTSerial device and baud rate can be configured separately
CameraCrowsnestDisabled by default; enable it in the system configuration when needed
Network ManagementWired network, Wi-Fi, SSHStarting from v1.3.9, the wired Ethernet port can automatically detect a direct PC connection or a router
System MaintenanceA/B OTA, USB drive update, full image flashingUpdate methods and upgrade requirements are subject to the update notes of the corresponding version
Firmware ResourcesKlipper, Katapult, and common MCU firmwareSome integrated devices support automatic maintenance of onboard MCUs; external motherboards still require following the corresponding motherboard tutorials
Do not update system components individually

Klipper, Moonraker, web interfaces, and screen services in FLYOS-FAST are adapted as a matched set. Please update via system OTA or full image flashing. Do not use third-party scripts to replace these components individually.

Selecting the Correct System Image

FLYOS-FAST is divided into H3, H5, and H618 images based on the host chip. The platform in the image name must match the actual device; images from different platforms cannot be used interchangeably.

Platform Differences

The printing services and management methods of FLYOS-FAST remain consistent across the three platforms, but the underlying hardware configurations are not universal:

  • H618: C5, C5 V1.1, and C8P can maintain onboard MCUs according to product configuration; Pi V3 is a standalone host board, and external motherboards must be flashed separately.
  • H5: Different devices use different onboard interfaces, screens, and firmware paths. Configure them in the corresponding product documentation.
  • H3: Lite2, Lite2.1, and MiniPad have different onboard interface and screen options. Select the configuration based on the specific model.

FLYOS-FAST v1.4.0 is currently a beta version and does not represent the official release. For beta version changes and known issues, please refer to the System Update Log. For official use, please prioritize the stable images for the corresponding platform provided on the download page.
