Firmware Flashing

Applicable Versions

This document applies to devices with firmware versions lower than v1.2.0-2-gf71af68. If your firmware version is equal to or higher than this version, please refer to the Firmware Update document and update directly through the web tool without entering DFU mode.

Screen Version Determination

• Please check whether the chip shown in the image below is present on the back of the screen.

• If present, your screen is the new version and supports self-updating of firmware.

• A comparison of the old and new screen versions is as follows:

Checking Firmware Version

Through the Web Tool, you can check the current firmware version number after connecting the device.

Entering DFU Flashing Mode

Power Disconnection

Before starting, completely turn off the printer and disconnect the power supply. Do not plug or unplug cables, arrange wiring, or touch terminals while the device is powered on.

You can make the screen enter flashing mode by any of the following methods:

• Method 1:

  1. Connect the screen to your computer using a Type-C data cable.
  2. Press and hold the BOOT button on the back of the screen, then briefly press the RST button, and release the BOOT button.

• Method 2:

  1. Press and hold the BOOT button on the back of the screen.
  2. Connect the Type-C data cable between the screen and the computer, then release the BOOT button.

Notice

To ensure successful STM32 flashing, please note the following:

• The USB port on some computers may cause unstable flashing due to driver or signal compatibility issues. It is recommended to try a different USB port for connection.
• If changing ports does not work, an effective solution is to connect via an external USB hub, which often improves compatibility.
• When the flashing software reports the error shown below, please also prioritize trying a USB hub. If the issue persists, check or use the host computer for flashing.

2. You need to download SetupSTM32CubeProgrammer and STM32 DFU Driver
3. Download the firmware to any directory on your computer
4. Connect the motherboard to the computer using a Type-C cable, ensuring it has entered dfu flashing mode
5. In STM32CubeProgrammer, select USB mode, refresh, and connect

6. If no error popup appears, the connection is successful.

7. Click the download icon on the left and check the following options

8. Click Browse as indicated by the arrow, then select the firmware you need to flash

9. Set Start address to 0x08000000
   • Note: If the firmware is in HEX format, please skip this step!!

10. Click Start automatic mode below to begin flashing the firmware

11. The following prompt indicates that the firmware flashing is complete

1. Download the flashing tool: Download Link
2. Install the DFU driver: Download and extract DFUProgrammer. The package includes the DFU driver for APM32. Please install this driver manually.
3. Prepare the firmware: Copy the previously compiled firmware file to any directory on your computer (e.g., the desktop) for easy selection later.
4. Enter DFU mode: Connect the mainboard to the computer using a Type-C cable. Ensure the mainboard is in DFU flashing mode (usually set via a jumper cap; for specific methods, refer to the mainboard's DFU entry instructions).
5. Run the flashing tool: Open DFUProgrammer and select and configure as shown in the images below:

6. Start flashing: Click the "Start Updating Firmware" button and wait for the progress bar to complete. Once the flashing is successful, you can disconnect the Type-C cable and remove the jumper cap.

1. Download and run FLY DFU-AUTO
2. If the Driver Status is unavailable, click Install Driver to complete the WinUSB driver installation
3. Click Browse... and select the .bin firmware file to be flashed
4. Click Start Flashing, view the flashing progress via the Running Log below, and wait for the flashing to complete

Detailed Tutorial: FLY DFU-AUTO Download and Usage

1. Install flashing tool.

   sudo apt update
   sudo apt install dfu-util -y

2. Confirm the device has entered DFU flashing mode.

   lsusb

   If you can see 0483:df11, it means DFU flashing mode has been entered successfully.

3. Pull/update firmware repository.

   git clone https://cnb.cool/3dmellow/FLY-Firmware ~/FLY-Firmware
   cd ~/FLY-Firmware && git pull --ff-only

4. Flash firmware.

   sudo dfu-util -a 0 -d 0483:df11 --dfuse-address 0x08000000 -D ~/FLY-Firmware/Screen/HDMI/mergedBL/FLY-HDMI-LCD_v1.2.0-3-g55f9774-mergedBL.bin

5. If File downloaded successfully appears, flashing is successful.

1. FLY host computer usually has dfu-util built-in, no need to install flashing tool again.
2. Confirm the device has entered DFU flashing mode.

   lsusb

   If you can see 0483:df11, it means DFU flashing mode has been entered successfully.

3. Pull/update firmware repository.

   git clone https://cnb.cool/3dmellow/FLY-Firmware /data/FLY-Firmware
   ln -s /data/FLY-Firmware /root/FLY-Firmware
   cd /data/FLY-Firmware && git pull --ff-only

4. Flash firmware.

   sudo dfu-util -a 0 -d 0483:df11 --dfuse-address 0x08000000 -D /data/FLY-Firmware/Screen/HDMI/mergedBL/FLY-HDMI-LCD_v1.2.0-3-g55f9774-mergedBL.bin

5. If File downloaded successfully appears, flashing is successful.

Note

Do not disconnect the Type-C connection during the flashing process, otherwise the flashing may fail.

Next Steps

After the complete firmware flashing is finished, the device supports updating the main firmware directly through the web tool, without the need to enter DFU mode again.
