Motherboard Precautions
Host Computer Connection Instructions
The Fly-D8-Pro motherboard can only communicate with the host computer for Klipper via the Type-C USB port.
Connection Requirements:
- Use a high-quality Type-C data cable to ensure stable data transmission.
- It is recommended to avoid using excessively long data cables (not exceeding 1.5 meters).
- Connect to a standard USB-A port on the host computer.
USB Interface Function Description
Integrated Architecture Description
The RS232 serial port and USB expansion function on the Fly-D8-Pro motherboard are two completely independent functional modules, integrated on the motherboard only in physical form.
The Fly-D8-Pro motherboard is equipped with two USB interfaces, which have different functions:
1. Type-C USB (Host Interface)
- Function: Dedicated to connecting to the host computer
- Power Switch: There is a
USB-5V>ENswitch beside it, used to control whether the host computer provides 5V power to the motherboard through the Type-C interface- Pressed: Enables 5V input on the Type-C interface, and the host computer supplies power to the motherboard
- Released: Disables 5V input on the Type-C interface
During normal use, it is recommended to keep the USB-5V>EN switch released (disable 5V input), in order to avoid:
- Conflict with the host computer's own 5V power supply
- Potential power backflow issues
- Protecting the host computer's USB interface
Only press the switch (enable 5V input) when the host computer needs to supply power to the motherboard through the Type-C interface.
2. USB-A (Device Expansion Interface)
- Function: Used for expanding peripherals, supports connecting:
- USB cameras
- USB flash drives/storage devices
- Other standard USB devices
- Independent Module: The USB expansion function is a completely independent module, integrated only physically through the motherboard
USB/RS232 Mode Switching
Function Selection Description
The Fly-D8-Pro motherboard uses a DIP switch to select between the USB expansion function or the RS232 serial port function on the same physical interface.
DIP Switch Settings
| DIP Switch Direction | Function Mode | Corresponding Interface | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switch Right | USB Expansion Mode | USB-A Interface ❷ | Connect cameras, USB drives, and other USB devices. |
| Switch Left | RS232 Serial Port Mode | RS232 Interface ❸ | Connect tool boards that support RS232 communication. |
Mode Switching Precautions
- Mutually Exclusive Functions: USB expansion and RS232 serial port functions cannot be enabled simultaneously; only one can be selected.
- Firmware Compatibility: When using the RS232 function, the tool board must support RS232 communication and have the corresponding RS232 firmware flashed.
- Independent Modules: The RS232 serial port and USB expansion are two independent functional modules, only physically integrated on the motherboard.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Issue 1: Host computer cannot recognize D8-Pro motherboard
Troubleshooting steps:
- Confirm connection using Type-C interface
- Check the
USB-5V>ENswitch next to the Type-C interface (pop up/turn off 5V input when using external power supply for the motherboard) - Check data cable quality, try replacing the data cable
- Verify the host computer's USB port is working properly
- Check whether the motherboard power supply is working properly
Issue 2: USB device cannot be recognized
Troubleshooting steps:
- Confirm the DIP switch is set correctly (to the right is USB expansion mode)
- Check USB device compatibility
- Verify the USB device works properly on another host
- Set the
USB-5V>ENswitch of the Type-C interface according to the power supply method: pop up when using external power supply for the motherboard, press down when using the host computer's USB to power the motherboard
Issue 3: RS232 communication abnormal
Troubleshooting steps:
- Confirm the DIP switch is set correctly (to the left is RS232 serial port mode)
- Check the RS232 cable connection, confirm TX/RX cross connection
- Check whether common ground is established (ensure the GND of the motherboard and the tool board are connected)
- Verify whether the tool board supports RS232 communication and has the corresponding firmware flashed
Usage Recommendations
- Type-C Connection: When using an external power supply for the motherboard, pop up the
USB-5V>ENswitch; press it down only when the motherboard needs to be powered by the host computer's USB, to avoid power conflicts. - Function Selection: Choose either the USB expansion or RS232 serial port function according to your needs; the two are independent modules.
- RS232 Connection: When an RS232 tool board needs to be connected, toggle the DIP switch to the left.
- USB Expansion: When USB devices such as cameras need to be connected, toggle the DIP switch to the right.
- Safe Operation: All mode switching operations must be performed while the power is off.
- Firmware Matching: Before using the RS232 function, confirm that the RS232 firmware has been flashed to the tool board.
Limit Switch Wiring Instructions
- Three-wire limit switches are extremely easy to wire incorrectly; please be sure to confirm the wire order is correct.
- If you are unsure about the wiring method, do not connect the motherboard's 5V pin, to avoid short circuits or equipment damage.
Standard three-wire limit interface definition:
- Signal
- GND (Ground)
- 5V (Power)
