OTA System Update Guide

This document details the OTA (Over-The-Air) update feature of the FlyOS-Fast system, helping you upgrade the system safely and conveniently.

Version Support Notes

  • V1.3.0 and above: Supports OTA online update functionality
  • V1.3.3 and above: Adds USB drive system update method
  • V1.3.10 and above: When the upgrade package requires syncing MCU firmware, the USB firmware of supported motherboards can be automatically updated during the first startup phase after OTA

Pre-installed Service Version Notes

The FlyOS-Fast system comes with mainstream services such as Klipper, RRF, Mainsail, Fluidd, Moonraker, and KlipperScreen. These services follow the following version management strategy during system packaging:

Targeted Optimizations

We have made specific targeted optimizations for core services such as Klipper, Mainsail, Fluidd, Moonraker, and KlipperScreen to enhance system stability and printing performance.

Important Warning

Do not manually upgrade or replace these services. Manual switching will render the targeted optimizations ineffective and may affect system stability and functional compatibility. If updates are needed, please obtain the latest version through official OTA methods.

Update Strategy

System OTA packages provide system components that have been adapted and tested. Release versions do not guarantee complete alignment with the latest commits of each upstream project. Please refer to the contents listed in the FlyOS-Fast changelog.

Notes

Due to the interdependent relationships between system components, do not separately replace Klipper, Moonraker, web interfaces, or screen services outside of OTA. If you have specific version requirements, please contact technical support.

Choosing an Update Method

Network Update Prerequisites

  • The device is connected to the internet
  • System version is V1.3.0 or higher

Steps

  1. Access in your browser: http://[device IP address]:9998
  2. The system will automatically check for available updates
  3. If a new version is available, click the "Update" button to start the upgrade
  4. Wait for the system to automatically download and install the update

Tip: Do not power off or perform printing operations during the update process

Update Precautions

General Safety Tips

  • Pause all printing tasks before updating
  • Ensure stable device power supply to avoid unexpected power outages
  • It is recommended to back up important configuration files in advance

Operations After Update

  • Follow the on-screen prompts to wait for the system to complete the update and reboot; if the upgrade package requires updating the MCU, the system will only automatically handle USB firmware on supported motherboards
  • Maintain stable power during the update, do not power off the device, start printing, or manually reboot
  • After re-entering the web interface, check the system version and the connection status of Klipper and Moonraker
  • Motherboards and firmware not covered by automatic update support need to be manually updated according to the corresponding product tutorials

Automatic MCU Firmware Update After OTA

Only the following motherboards are supported

The OTA MCU firmware automatic update feature only supports the following motherboards:

  • FLY-C8
  • FLY-C5
  • FLY-C8P
  • FLY-GEMINI V3

The above motherboards must use USB communication firmware. Other motherboards, CAN firmware, USB-to-CAN firmware, CAN tool boards, and other external MCUs do not support automatic firmware updates via OTA.

For devices not within the supported range, please manually compile and flash the firmware according to the corresponding product documentation.

If the upgrade package requires updating the MCU firmware of supported motherboards, the system will handle it automatically during the first startup phase after OTA. Before starting OTA, confirm that the motherboard's USB connection is normal, and after the update is complete, check whether Klipper can connect properly.

Do not operate the device during the update

During automatic MCU updates, do not power off, reboot, start printing, or unplug/plug USB cables. Interrupting the flashing process may cause the MCU to become unreachable, requiring manual recovery by following the corresponding motherboard's firmware flashing tutorial.

With the steps above, you can easily complete the OTA update for the FlyOS-Fast system.
